Suggestions from the Teen Librarian:

A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
Mia may seem like a normal teen, just trying to make it through school, but she’s not. Mia has a condition called synesthesia- where sounds, numbers, and words all have a color for her (explaining why her cat is named Mango, a color she associates with her beloved pet). The story follows Mia as she struggles with the challenges of her condition as it begins to get in the way of her schoolwork. Perhaps this is a secret Mia can’t keep from her friends and family any longer.

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen
Everyone reacts to loss in a different way. For her mom, it is working non-stop. For Macy, handling her sadness after her father’s death increases her need to feel perfect. When summer rolls around, Macy is expecting to work her boyfriend’s job at the library while he is away. What Macy doesn’t know is that this summer will change her life. A new job, new friends, a new crush, and a new outlook on life helps Macy take charge, acknowledge her imperfections, and not sit on the sidelines in her own life.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
This one is for the zombie lovers out there. Mary lives in a walled village. The wall’s purpose is to keep out the Unconsecrated, those who have been afflicted by a disease turning them into zombies. Slowly, Mary comes to find out that there is something the Guardians, who protect the village, and the Sisterhood, who lead the village, aren’t telling them. Mary’s curiosity and her desire to find life outside of the walls leads her on a nail-biting adventure.
