Hi everyone, I hope you all had a wonderful first day of school!

As you are probably aware, the Southwick Public Library is still having some work done and probably won't be your hangout spot until the end of September. Because of that, I am planning to hold two programs after-school at the SRS Library & Media Center. They will be:

I hope that I can count on all of you to come see us try out this little experiment!

The second program will be a meeting of SPLAT on Friday, May 13th. It's never too late to join, and we'll be discussing summer reading ideas.

The third program is the ever popular After-school Hangout! This month will feature DIY button bracelets and sugar cookie decorating.

Next up is another session of Cookies and Coloring. If you have any cookie requests, please let me know!

Our last program in May is our end of the school year craft. We'll be making some fun collages to commemorate another successful year!

What's on deck for April?

With April comes National Poetry Month, and we have two programs to celebrate!

The first is a poetry contest, and it will run all throughout the month.

The second is a poetry slam (basically, a spoken word poetry contest) and that will be on April 20th. Space will be limited, so if you want to perform, please sign up at the reference desk!

Coloring and Cookies came from the advice of SPLAT, so let's make it a success! Stop by for lots of different coloring pages, some cookies, and good company!

Also on the advice of SPLAT, we have renamed the Teen Lounge the After-school Hangout, and that will be on April 13th. Come in for candy sushi and book spine poetry!

SPLAT is where you can make a difference in your library. Join the team and let me know what   YOU want.

What I'm Reading Right Now!

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. The first book in the Reckoners series, which depicts a post-apocalyptic world in which the appearance of an orbiting object has given random people superhuman powers in apparent defiance of known physical laws, turning them into Epics. These powers have caused most of them to prey upon or enslave the rest of humanity, causing the collapse of traditional governments. One teenage boy who was orphaned by a High Epic joins an elite underground resistance movement.

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black. Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. And once you pass through Coldtown's gates, you can never leave.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.
